Best time to Go

The best time to visit India and Nepal is during the cooler, drier months from October to March, when most of both countries enjoy clear skies and comfortable sightseeing weather. In India, the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is at its best from October to March, with pleasant days and cool evenings. Summer (April to June) is hot, especially in the plains, but it is a good time to visit the Himalayas and to see tigers in parks such as Ranthambore, as wildlife gathers around the waterholes. The monsoon runs from June to September, bringing heavy rain and humidity to much of India, though it turns the landscape lush and green and means fewer crowds.

In Nepal, autumn (October to November) is the most popular season, with crisp air, clear mountain views and ideal conditions for trekking. Spring (March to May) is also excellent, with warm days and rhododendrons in bloom across the hills. Winter (December to February) is cold in the mountains but sunny and clear in Kathmandu and the lowlands, while the monsoon (June to September) brings rain and cloud that can hide the Himalayan views.

Wildlife and adventure travellers will find the best tiger sightings in India from March to June, while trekking and mountain flights in Nepal are best in October, November, March and April.
